Delegation from Glasgow, UK Visited NJIT

On the afternoon of June 12, Ms. Anne McTaggart (Deputy Mayor of Glasgow, UK) headed a 9-people delegation to visit NJIT. Members of the delegation included Mike Robbins (former Mayor of Stirling, UK and Chairman of the Scotland-China Chamber of Commerce), Lu Yunfei (Director of the Scotland-China Chamber of Commerce), and other senior business representatives. Shi Jinfei (Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of NJIT), and Cao Xuehong (Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of NJIT), warmly welcomed the guests. Directors of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Office of Science, Technology and Industry, and the School of Economics and Management participated in the talk.

Chaired by Ms. Cao Xuehong, the meeting was held in Conference Room 303, Administrative Center, Zhiqin Building. NJIT President Shi Jinfei introduced the history of NJIT, advantageous disciplines, university-enterprise cooperation, entrepreneurship and innovation education, and internationalization endeavors. He emphasized the characteristics of NJIT and achievements by focusing on engineering disciplines and undertaking application-oriented undergraduate education. He said that there are significant opportunities for NJIT and universities in Glasgow to cooperate in various disciplines (e.g., electrical, mechanical and business administration), and NJIT plans to further expand its international cooperation by having more in-depth exchanges with relevant universities in the future, including the establishment of new R&D institutions and co-construction of the School of Business.

Ms. Anne McTaggart (Deputy Mayor of Glasgow) expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and demonstrated significant confidence in future exchanges and cooperation between the two parties. She described the existing situation and educational resources in Glasgow, stating that education is an important aspect of friendly exchanges for them. Additionally, NJIT and universities in Glasgow have numerous similarities, with a great scope of cooperation.

In the exchange session, Mike Robbins (Former Mayor of Stirling, UK and Chairman of the Scotland-China Chamber of Commerce) depicted the economic and educational situation in Stirling. He said that both parties could cooperate and exchange in many fields and this visit provided an opportunity for future cooperation.

Before the meeting, the Glasgow delegation also visited NJIT’s Industrial Center and School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and spoke highly of NJIT’s emphasis on practical teaching and in-depth school-enterprise cooperation.
