anjing Institute of Technology (NJIT) is a general undergraduate university administered directly by Jiangsu Province with centurial history, deep engineering foundation, and distinct characteristics of application-oriented specialties. Serve as a directorial unit of China’s National Special Committee for Applied Undergraduate Colleges and Universities and a vice presidential unit of the National Development Alliance for Applied Graduate Education Universities, NJIT stands among the first pilot universities to enter the “Program for Educating and Training Excellent Engineers” and the “CDIO Engineering Education Reform Program”. Associated with the national pilot zone for innovative models in cultivating electromechanical control talents, NJIT is a national model for the collaborative development of enterprises, universities and research institutions, as well as the typical university experienced in promoting graduate employment of nationwide reputation.

Located in the Fangshan Scenic Area of Jiangning District of Nanjing, an ancient and modern city, NJIT boasts a total area of nearly 200 hectares, with a total construction area exceeding 80 hectares, and offers a set of superior facilities for education and teaching activities. Currently, we have 19 educational and teaching departments and over 24,000 full-time students, approximately 1,000 of whom are engaged in postgraduate studies. These students are supported by over 2,100 faculty members, of which 45.42% are full-time teachers holding doctorate degrees, over 55.18% have senior professional titles, and more than 200 faculties are high-level talents who receive national special allowances, including experts, distinguished professors, and other outstanding teachers.

LEADING ACADEMICS

Upholding the motto of “Learning for Application” and the spirit of “Integrating Knowledge and Practice, Inspiring Entrepreneurship and Innovation”, NJIT plays an initiative role in China to advocate for “cultivating application-oriented talents” and to implement “application-oriented undergraduate education”. Our comprehensive academic strengths rank among the top application-oriented universities in China, as NJIT aspires to establish a new model of development into being a first-class application-oriented engineering university with distinctive features, further recognized at home and abroad.

Committed to educating high-quality application-oriented talents, NJIT maintains close connections with industries and emphasizes engineering practice, cultivating 260,000 excellent graduates of professional influence in fields of machinery, electric power, energy and power, nuclear industry and other sectors, represented by Shen Guorong, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

STUDENTS CULTIVATION

Currently, NJIT offers 72 undergraduate degree programs and develops a coordinated and diverse mix of disciplines with engineering as its pillar. Notably, NJIT offers 11 national first-class undergraduate degree programs, 3 national featured degree programs, and 3 accredited master degree programs. Our “Engineering” discipline is among top 1% in Essential Science Indicators (ESI).

NJIT students’ entrepreneurial and innovative skills have been further honed with the active reform on project-based teaching. Supported by NJIT’s distinctive cultivation strength, many NJIT graduates have become professional application-oriented talents with solid knowledge, excellent competences, strong practical capacity and promising development potential. In recent years, students from NJIT have won multiple national awards in various contests including innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, academic and technology contests, and electronic design contests. The campus-based Tianyin Dreamworks Incubation Studio, a national makerspace, was awarded as a “National Pioneering Base for Business Incubation” and has established itself as a prominent nationwide example of innovation and entrepreneurship education.

RESEARCH EXCELLENCE

NJIT has made great efforts to implement the “Project for Enhancing Scientific Research Strength”, developing over 20 advanced academic research platforms involving the national-level power simulation and control center, national-level postdoctoral research station, national-level demonstration institution of technology transfer, national-level enterprise technology center, and national makerspace.

Moreover, NJIT partners with organizations such as the China Machinery Industry Federation and China Electricity Council to develop 10 industrial technology research institutes, aiming at boosting the growth of high-end equipment manufacturing, smart power grids, new energy technologies, and other emerging industries. The applied science and technology research capability and application of scientific achievements of NJIT rank among the top of peer universities in China.

GLOBAL VISION

NJIT actively engages in international communications and collaborations, and has established enduring partnerships with diverse educational institutions from Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, New Zealand, South Korea, etc. The collaborative undergraduate program in Electrical Engineering and Automation jointly run by NJIT and University of Northumbria at Newcastle (UK) since 2007, has nurtured graduates highly recognized by the electric power industry, with its teaching quality generally acknowledged by society. We also boast a newly-established Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run NJIT-Oulu School with the University of Oulu (Finland), which has emerged from the previous “4+0” cooperative educational program in Software Engineering and made innovative efforts in education and teaching, humanistic exchanges, research collaboration, talent introduction, and social services. We also have vibrant academic partnerships with University of Strathclyde (UK), Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences (Germany), University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (USA), and Saxion University of Applied Sciences (the Netherlands).

SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT

NJIT upholds the education principle of “multifaceted synergy and industry-education integration”. By dint of specialized disciplines and industry strengths, it has provided national-level off-campus practice teaching bases for university students and national-level engineering education centers. Additionally, NJIT has executed strategic cooperation agreements with the government bodies of Jiangning District of Nanjing, Huai’an, Yixing and Ma’anshan, and built nearly 300 such bases in collaboration with global top 500 firms and leading Chinese companies, launching solid foundations to the cultivation of high-level application-oriented talents.
